US President Donald Trump has criticised climate activist Greta Thunberg, calling her “crazy” and a “troublemaker” following her deportation from Israel. Thunberg was among over 170 activists detained and expelled after attempting to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “She (Greta Thunberg) is just a troublemaker… she’s no longer into the environment now. She has an anger management problem. I think she should see a doctor… Have you ever watched her? She’s a young person. She’s so angry, she’s so crazy… She’s just a troublemaker.”

Flotilla Mission And Protest

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which departed Barcelona in early September, aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade. Israel intercepted the vessels off Egypt, labeling the flotilla as linked to Hamas and stating the boats had entered a prohibited zone with minimal aid on board. Over 470 people were arrested, with 138 remaining in detention.

Following her arrival in Athens, Thunberg expressed disappointment over her deportation, calling the mission “the biggest ever attempt to break Israel’s illegal and inhumane siege by sea.” She urged the international community to act against what she described as Israel’s “genocide” of Palestinians. Activists at Athens airport unfurled a large Palestinian flag and chanted for Palestinian freedom.

Israel’s Response

In a statement, Israel said Thunberg and other deportees included citizens of Greece, Italy, France, and the United States. The Israeli Foreign Ministry called the flotilla a “PR stunt” and accused the activists of spreading “pre-planned fake news.” AFP reported that 138 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla remained in Israeli custody. The flotilla consisted of 45 vessels carrying aid and foreign activists seeking to break the blockade to deliver humanitarian assistance.

Trump On Gaza Peace Efforts

On the broader Gaza situation, Trump praised countries helping mediate the conflict. “Qatar has been very, very helpful to us… With Hamas, they’re very strong. Turkey has likewise been helpful. Honestly, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, everybody has been helpful. I just spoke with the King of Jordan today, and he’s been terrific too,” Trump said. “This is why it should happen. Everybody wants it to happen. Usually when everybody, including Hamas, wants it to happen, it’s going to happen.”
