United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that he is delaying the planned military strikes against Iran that were expected today. Trump said the decision was taken after requests from Gulf leaders, including the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Why Did Trump Pause Planned Attacks?

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that “serious negotiations” are currently taking place. He expressed hope that a major agreement acceptable to the US and other countries could soon be reached. He also repeated that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

“I have been asked by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to hold off on our planned Military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran,’’ Trump wrote.

Will The Strikes Continue?

He stated that he has instructed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Daniel Cane and the US military to hold back the planned attack for now. However, he warned that the military has been told to remain fully prepared for a "large-scale assault" if negotiations fail or if an acceptable deal is not reached.

“I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, The Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Daniel Caine, and The United States Military, that we will NOT be doing the scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow, but have further instructed them to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached,” Trump added.

Trump Reiterates 'No Nuclear Weapon' For Iran

Trump emphasised that the proposed deal clearly ensures that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons. He added that while the scheduled attack has been paused out of “respect” for the Gulf leaders involved in the discussions, military action could still happen if the diplomacy fails.

Earlier on Monday, there were reports that the US and Israel are reportedly preparing for a possible fresh round of military strikes against Iran as early as this week. Officials familiar with the matter, told The New York Times that Washington and Tel Aviv are carrying out what they described as the “most extensive operational planning" since the fragile ceasefire reached last month.
