US President Donald and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met in Washington for the first time on Thursday (local time). Although the White House did not release the official readout of the talks between the two leaders, Trump’s fighter jet pin on his suit drew attention. On social media, there has been a buzz that President Trump wore the fighter jet pin in order to cement his claims of downing six fighter jets during the recent India-Pakistan conflict.

Although the President had never claimed anything pointing to the downing of “Indian” Air Force fighter jets, the Pakistani side had hurriedly made baseless claims since Operation Sindoor. New Delhi had already rejected Pakistan’s claims.

Kicking off the pair's extended two-hour session, Trump expressed optimism for a breakthrough on the issue amid their dialogue.

IAF shot down five Pakistani fighter jets

The IAF carried out precision strikes on multiple targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir linked to terror groups. The operation was aimed at destroying terror infrastructure, neutralising key operatives, and sending a clear message that cross-border terrorism would invite decisive retaliation. During the operation,Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said during an event in Bengaluru last month, that IAF shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and a large aircraft during Operation Sindoor. This was the largest-ever recorded surface-to-air kill by India.
