Trump meets Shehbaz Sharif news: US President Donald Trump held a brief 0.36 second meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly Session on Tuesday. The prime minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, besides other ministers and senior officials. It was reported that Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir would join the meeting but he was not seen during the brief interaction.

The details of the meeting are yet to made public but local media reports claim both leaders held an "informal conversation". Reports claimed President is likely to hold a one-on-one bilateral meeting at the White House in Washington, D.C., on September 25, at the invitation of President Trump. However, neither sides confirmed the same.

Notably, this was the first meeting of Sharif with the American President following the deadly Pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terror attack in April this year.

Pakistani leaders have repeteadly credited Trump for the ceasefire between New Delhi and Islamabad following India's powerful military strike on Pakistan and PoJK. Some of the top leaders even nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump on Tuesday once again said he stopped the conflict between India and Pakistan, this time repeating his claim from the podium of the UN General Assembly. In his speech at the General Debate of the high-level 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Trump also lashed out at the world body for its failure to "even try to help" in ending the conflicts. "Likewise, in a period of just seven months, I have ended seven unendable wars. They said they were ‘unendable, you are never going to get them solved'," he said.

Trump said that even after ending all of these wars and negotiating the Abraham Accords, the US received no credit. "Everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize for each one of these achievements. But for me, the real prize will be the sons and daughters who live to grow up with their mothers and fathers because millions of people are no longer being killed in endless and unglorious wars. What I care about is not winning prizes, it's saving lives. We saved millions and millions of lives with the seven wars, and we have others that we're working on,” he said.

Besides meeting Sharif, Trump held a multilateral meeting on Gaza with a select group of leaders of Muslim countries, including Pakistani Prime Minister on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York. During the meeting, Trump and Sharif engaged in discussions, likely touching on bilateral relations and regional issues. This encounter comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir and subsequent Indian military operations.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by leaders of Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, the UAE and Jordan.
