A tragic incident unfolded in Munich as a car drove into a crowd, injuring at least 28 people, according to Sky News. Authorities have launched a "major operation" in response, with emergency services swiftly arriving at the scene. The incident has heightened concerns as it comes just a day before the highly anticipated Munich Security Conference, where world leaders, diplomats, and defence officials are set to gather.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours before the highly anticipated Munich Security Conference, which is set to be attended by top global leaders, including US Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

According to local reports, the driver of the vehicle was immediately detained by police and is no longer considered a threat. Eyewitnesses told media that the car appeared to have deliberately plowed into the crowd. Authorities have confirmed the situation as a major security incident but have not yet disclosed any potential motives.

Police secured the suspect, a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, at the scene, confirming no further threat. At least 28 people were injured, including two in serious condition and a child requiring resuscitation. Bavarian state premier Markus Soder stated the incident is being treated as a "suspected attack", though the motive remains unclear.

Connection To Union Rally

German newspaper Bild reported that the victims were participating in a rally organised by the trade union Verdi. Another local broadcaster confirmed that the group had gathered as part of an ongoing strike action when the vehicle struck. The exact nature of the demonstration and whether it was a direct target remain unclear. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
