A 23-year-old was charged with murder after a shooting at a country club left one dead and two wounded. A wedding celebration turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy on Saturday when a gunman opened fire at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire. The attack left one person dead and multiple others injured. Authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau. Early reports of two shooters were later corrected, with officials confirming that Nadeau acted alone. Witnesses said the gunman shouted “Free Palestine” before opening fire, though investigators have not determined a motive.

The victim was named as 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, who died from gunshot wounds. New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke confirmed that Nadeau has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. Additional charges are expected for the other victims.

Several Injured While Fleeing

At least six people were hospitalised with injuries sustained while fleeing the venue, according to local news outlet WMUR. Officials stressed that there is no known connection between Nadeau and the victim.

Eyewitnesses recalled terrifying moments as shots rang out. Tom Bartelson, whose nephew was the groom, said, “We heard about six shots, and everyone ducked for cover. People dropped to the ground and tried to escape.” He added that the shooter yelled, “the children are safe” while targeting guests.

Another witness, Emily Ernst, said she saw a masked gunman dressed in black raise a firearm before she fled. “I ran through the kitchen for my life,” she said.

Emergency Response

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. Aerial footage showed ambulances and police cars surrounding the venue. Authorities confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for a detention hearing. Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess praised first responders and said, “No matter how unlikely it seems, it can happen where you live.”
