Hurricane Beryl Barbados: The world champion Indian Cricket Team remains stranded in Barbados as category-4 Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Caribbean nation on Monday. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is expected to stay in the island nation for another day, PTI reported. According to CNN, life-threatening winds and storms lashed Barbados. This came as the T20 World Cup final host, which has a population of 3 lakh, remains in lockdown since Sunday evening.
Hurricane Beryl is reportedly the strongest known storm which has passed through Barbados, CNN reported, adding that no such inclement weather event was witnessed since 1851 as per NOAA data. With wind speed over 240 kilometres per hour, the category-4 hurricane made landfall near the Grenadines’ Carriacou Island in the Caribbean Sea at 11 AM Barbados time.
According to the National Hurricane Centre, the storm triggered massive power outages and rainwater flooded streets across many parts of the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados and Tobago.
