Concerns over the condition of former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan escalated this week, with his son warning that the family fears authorities may be hiding “something irreversible” after weeks without any proof that he is still alive. Khan’s son, Kasim, described the situation as a “human rights emergency”, saying the family has been denied all court-ordered prison visits for over three weeks. Despite a judicial mandate for weekly meetings, the family claims they have had no verifiable communication with the former premier.
In written remarks to Reuters, Kasim said the family remains completely in the dark: “Today, we have no verifiable information at all about his condition. Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being hidden from us.” He added that the lack of updates amounts to “psychological torture”, noting that even Khan’s personal physician has not been granted access for more than a year.
PTI Senator Claims Khan Is Alive
Amid mounting public anxiety and the family’s demand for proof of life, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Khurram Zeeshan stated that Imran Khan is alive. Speaking to ANI, he said Khan is being pressured by authorities to leave Pakistan.
“They are trying to strike a deal with Imran Khan, asking him to leave the country,” Zeeshan alleged. “They even promise him concessions if he goes abroad and stays silent. But Imran Khan will never agree to it. The kind of leader he is, he will never approve it.” Zeeshan’s remarks, however, have not eased concerns, as no recent photographs, videos or verified communications from Khan have emerged.
The 72-year-old former cricket star-turned-politician has been incarcerated since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases. Khan maintains that the charges, ranging from corruption to national security violations, are politically motivated and were accelerated after his ouster in a 2022 no-confidence vote.

His convictions include:
Toshakhana case: Accused of unlawfully selling state gifts acquired during his premiership.
Cipher case: Sentenced to 10 years over alleged mishandling and leaking of a diplomatic cable.
Al-Qadir Trust case: Given 14 years for alleged irregularities in land deals linked to a charity project.
Khan’s legal team has repeatedly challenged the verdicts, calling them part of a targeted campaign to eliminate him from politics.
Family Fears Secret Transfers
With prison visits blocked and rumours of secret transfers spreading, the family has filed multiple requests for immediate access, including an urgent appeal for his doctor to conduct a medical evaluation. None have been granted, they say.
“Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured or even alive is unbearable,” Kasim said. “We simply want proof of life. Nothing more.”
