India-Pakistan ceasefire: In a major development, US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Sharing a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, he wrote, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Later, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also echoed the same and claimed he and US Vice-President JD Vance had engaged in talks with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Pakistan Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and Indian National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and his Pakistani counterpart Asim Malik. Praising the PMs of both countries, Rubio announced that the governments of India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire. Besides, he also claimed both sides agreed to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.

Pakistan Military called India directly: Indian Foreign Secretary

Later, in a special briefing, the Ministry of External Affairs, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, also announced the same and added that both sides agreed to stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time. He said that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both sides will talk again on May 12 at 12 pm (IST).

"Pakistan's Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time. Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours," added Misri in a brief message to the press.
