India on Tuesday rejected Pakistan’s latest claims regarding the overflight clearance of a humanitarian aircraft bound for Sri Lanka, calling Islamabad’s remarks “ridiculous” and part of a broader “misinformation campaign” targeting New Delhi. Responding to media queries, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan’s statement was yet another deliberate attempt to distort facts, clarifying that India had received the request at 1 pm on December 1 and granted overflight permission within hours, by 5:30 pm the same day.

He stressed that India acted swiftly given the urgency of aid delivery to Sri Lanka and reaffirmed New Delhi’s continued commitment to supporting the Sri Lankan people during their time of need.

"We reject the ridiculous statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, which is yet another attempt at spreading anti-India misinformation," Jaiswal said. He added that the approval was granted "expeditiously" due to the urgent humanitarian nature of the shipment bound for Sri Lanka.

Claim Of Denial ‘Completely False’

The clarification followed claims circulating in sections of Pakistani media that India had refused access to its airspace for the relief operation. Indian officials strongly rejected this narrative, reiterating that the clearance was granted within hours in line with established diplomatic procedures.

India's Operation Sagar Bandhu

Earlier in the day, PM Modi had spoken to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to convey condolences at the loss of life and the widespread damage. The PMO said India assured additional aid under Operation Sagar Bandhu, involving rescue teams, naval support, and emergency supplies.

PM Modi also assured the Sri Lankan president that India "stands in firm solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka in this hour of need," and this assurance was well-received in Colombo. President Dissanayake has conveyed "deep gratitude" for the swift deployment by India and overwhelming support shown by the Indian agencies.
