Bangkok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh's interim government chief Muhammad Yunus in Thailand on Friday, where the former reiterated India's support for democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. During the bilateral meeting, the Prime Minister also underlined India's concerns over the safety and security of minorities, including Hindus in Bangladesh. Also, PM Modi urged the Bangladeshi side to investigate the attrocities against them.
Besides, the Prime Minister also urged that any rhetoric that vitiates the environment is best avoided. "PM Modi reiterated India's support for democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. He underlined Prof. Yunus India's desire to forge a positive and constructive relationship with Bangladesh," Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said during a press briefing in Bangkok.

Hindus attacked in Bangladesh
Earlier last year, the apex body of Hindus in Bangladesh said the minority Hindu community faced attacks and threats in 278 locations across 48 districts since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5 and termed it as an “assault on the Hindu religion.” The minority Hindu population has faced vandalisation of their business and properties and devastation of Hindu temples in the students’ violence that ensued for days following the ouster of Prime Minister Hasina, who soon fled to India on August 5.
PM Modi strong words on Yunus's Northeast remarks
On his recent remarks on Northeast, the Prime Minister strongly raised concerns and advised the Bangladeshi side to refrain from giving such statements. On the border issues, PM Modi said that the strict enforcement of the law and prevention of illegal border crossing are necessary to maintain border security and security.

PM Modi asks to solve issues bilateraly
"Prime Minister congratulated Bangladesh on assuming the Chair of BIMSTEC and looked forward to the forum further advancing regional cooperation under its leadership. The leaders agreed to enhance consultations and cooperation to advance regional integration, including under the BIMSTEC framework," according to the statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The statement underlined that the Prime Minister expressed his conviction that all issues of mutual interest between the two countries would continue to be addressed and resolved bilaterally through constructive discussions, in the interest of their long-standing and mutually beneficial bilateral relationship.
Extradition of Sheikh Hasina
On the issue of Bangladesh making any formal request to India for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka, the Foreign Secretary said," Bangladesh has made a formal request regarding Sheikh Hasina. Saying anything more on this will not be correct right now."
