India on Friday said it has “taken note” of US President Donald Trump’s recent comments alleging that Pakistan is among the countries secretly conducting nuclear weapons tests. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said such “clandestine nuclear activities” are in line with Pakistan’s past behaviour and long-standing record of nuclear proliferation.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have taken note of President Donald Trump’s comments about Pakistan’s nuclear testing. Pakistan’s clandestine nuclear activities are in keeping with its history.”
Trump’s Remarks Raises Global Concerns
The remarks came after President Trump, in an interview with CBS News, alleged that countries such as Russia, China, North Korea and Pakistan had been “testing nuclear weapons underground,” while the United States had refrained from doing so for over three decades. Trump said that the US would now resume its own nuclear testing program “because others are testing.”
Trump’s statement marks the first time a sitting American president has directly accused Pakistan of ongoing nuclear weapons testing. His comments have sparked a wave of diplomatic reactions from across the world, including firm denials from both Islamabad and Beijing.
Pakistan, China Reject Trump’s Claim
Pakistan’s Foreign Office dismissed the accusation, calling it “baseless and misleading.” A senior Pakistani security official told CBS News that Islamabad maintains a “unilateral moratorium” on nuclear testing and remains committed to restraint. “Pakistan was not the first to carry out nuclear tests and will not be the first to resume them,” the official said.

China also rejected the US President’s statement. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing has “always abided by its commitment to suspend nuclear testing” and continues to follow a policy of self-defensive nuclear deterrence.
