Hours after a silver and gold crown gifted by PM Narendra Modi to Bangladesh's Jeshoreshwari Temple was stolen on Thursday, India issued a statement demanding a swift probe and urging the Bangladesh government to recover the crown and take action against those responsible.

"We express deep concern and urge the Government of Bangladesh to investigate the theft, recover the crown, and take action against those responsible," the Indian High Commission posted on X.

According to a report by Daily Star, the theft took place shortly after temple priest Dilip Mukherjee had left following the day's worship. The cleaning staff discovered the missing crown later, and noticed it was no longer on the deity's head.
