India is concerned about targeted attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the abduction and brutal murder of Hindu leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy in Bangladesh's Dinajpur district. The attack has evoked widespread outrage and attracted sharp criticism from India, which called the attack part of a "pattern of systematic persecution" of Hindu minorities in the neighbouring nation.
Roy, a well-known member of the local Hindu community, was allegedly kidnapped from his home in Basudebpur village on Friday. Local sources said a group of attackers broke into his house, pulled him out, and brutally beat him. His body was later discovered with various injuries, verifying that he was beaten to death. The deadly incident has once again pointed towards the growing insecurity among religious minorities in Bangladesh, especially under the present interim regime.
MEA Releases Strong Statement
In response to the murder, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed India's serious concern, taking to the social media platform X:
"We have noted with distress the abduction and brutal killing of Shri Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a Hindu minority leader in Bangladesh.
This killing follows a pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government, even as the perpetrators of previous such events roam with impunity.
We condemn this incident and once again remind the interim government to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions."

Pattern Of Increasing Violence
This is not a one-time incident. In the last few years, several attacks on Hindu temples, leaders, and communities have been reported across different regions of Bangladesh. Despite repeated assurances from the authorities, most incidents have remained unsolved, which has raised concerns regarding an erosion of law and order for minorities.
Minority groups and human rights activists have urged the government of Bangladesh to take decisive action to avert such occurrences and ensure justice for the victims. Increasing pressure is being exerted on Dhaka to ensure that communal harmony is maintained and perpetrators or instigators of such violence are brought to book.
