The brutal killing of 19-year-old Nida Khan, an Indian medical student who studied at Dhaka's Ad-Din Momin Medical College, has put her hometown of Pidawara in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district in shock. Dead on Saturday, September 27, in her hostel room, the circumstances of her death are not yet clear. Early reports indicated possible suicide, authorities have yet to confirm the manner in which she died.

Dhaka police chief Syed Md Akhtar said that the body was found early Sunday morning. "We were informed at 4:15 am and found the hanging body of 19-year-old Indian student Nida Khan," he added. He further added that Khan had also given an exam recently and was allegedly expelled from the college after she was caught cheating. "Initial reports say that she might have committed suicide due to the expulsion," Akhtar said.

Suspicious Death Case Registered

The Bangladesh police have filed a case of suspicious death, and an investigation is in progress. No public statement has come from the college administration, sparking speculation about its silence. Khan's friends, however, have firmly rejected that she would commit suicide, calling her an intelligent student. 

Grief and shock have descended over the community in Pidawara. Relatives, friends, and neighbours all reacted with disbelief at the sad news. Khan's relatives have come from Jhalawar to New Delhi to launch diplomatic and political initiatives to repatriate her body from Bangladesh.

AIMSA has also appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, AIMSA vice president Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan appealed for government help to arrange the repatriation of the body of Nida Khan. The Jhalawar district administration claimed that it had received no formal confirmation about the incident from Bangladesh officials.

Peers and friends recall Nida Khan as a talented, lively student with a bright future ahead of her. Her untimely death has created a huge void, and the community remains on the lookout for answers as the investigation continues. Authorities called for patience as they try to establish the precise conditions surrounding her death.
