An Indian-origin doctor, Dr. Suman Khulbe, has been convicted of sexual abuse and unprofessional behavior by the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (OPSDT). The tribunal suspended her medical practice licence in the province after ruling that she violated strict professional boundaries with patients.
The disciplinary panel concluded that Dr. Khulbe failed to treat her patients solely as patients and instead engaged in personal and sexual relationships with them. “She saw them as her friends, her social life, her athletic life, and her business partners,” the tribunal noted in its decision, stressing that the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) enforces a zero-tolerance policy on sexual contact between doctors and patients, regardless of whether the contact may appear consensual.
Who Is Suman Khulbe?
Raised in an Indian household with traditional values, Dr. Khulbe began practising family medicine in 2001. A year later, she purchased a home in Kanata, Ontario, which she later converted into a private medical clinic.
She subsequently turned to regenerative and aesthetic medicine, marketing procedures such as peptide therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), anti-aging treatments, and biohacking. According to her official website, she is board-certified in Aesthetic Medicine by the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine.
Allegations Involving Patients
The court ruled that Dr. Khulbe had a sexual relationship with one male patient, who was also her gym instructor. Court documents reveal that the patient first consulted the doctor for vitamin therapy and later got physical therapy to recuperate. Gradually, their sessions progressed to sexual activities such as oral sex and manual stimulation.
The complainant reported that the victim was dazed due to procaine, a local anaesthetic given during treatment, and stated he was not in a rational frame of mind. Other patients also alleged that Khulbe declared her love for them and had close personal and professional relationships outside the clinic.
The panel pointed out that Dr. Khulbe hosted social parties in her clinic, where liquor was consumed and procaine injected. The behaviour, the panel decided, was a serious failure of professional boundaries and constituted "disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional" conduct.
Doctor Defends Herself, Plans Appeal
Reacting to the ruling, Dr. Khulbe stated she would appeal the result, describing the process as unfair. "Numerous facts of my case were excluded and not led out during the public hearing. Showing up at this disputed hearing cost me and my parents a significant amount of money and time," she said in an interview with the National Post.

Khulbe conceded to having had sex with the trainer but insisted it was within a consenting personal relationship. She has characterised the case as a "witch hunt" and accused a former employee of attempting to blackmail her by making false allegations.

The CPSO also verified that Dr. Khulbe's licence has been suspended since August 23, 2025. A penalty hearing has been set for November 24, 2025, when the length of the suspension or potential revocation will be determined. The case has gained much attention in Canada as well as in the Indian diaspora, questioning professional ethics and the duty of doctors to uphold patients' trust.
