Indian Student In UK Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison For Raping Drunk Woman, Taking Pictures

JE News Desk: A 20-year-old Indian-origin student has been arrested in the United Kingdom (UK) for allegedly raping a drunk and semi-conscious woman whom he had met in a club last year, the police said. He was sentenced to six years and nine months in a young offender's institution.

The accused identified as Preet Vikal was caught on CCTV camera carrying the ‘intoxicated’ woman to his flat in Cardiff, UK and raped her in June last year, police officials said. Both Preet and the woman met each other during a night out in Cardiff with separate groups of friends.

"The victim had drunk to excess and by the end of the night was, plainly, hopelessly intoxicated. She stepped outside the club and encountered Preet Vikal. The two engaged in conversation and moved away from their groups," the police said.

A video has also surfaced online in which Preet Vikal was seen carrying the woman in his arms and later across his shoulders. The convict allegedly took private pictures of the survivor after raping her.

Preet Vikal was found guilty of taking the woman to a property in the North Road area where he raped her during the early hours of June 4 last year.

Taking to Twitter, the South Wales Police Cardiff wrote, "A man has been jailed for raping a woman at a hall of residence in #Cardiff. CCTV showed Preet Vikal carrying the victim in his arms and later across his shoulders out of the city centre.”

"Stranger attacks such as these are extremely unusual in Cardiff but in Preet Vikal we had a dangerous individual. He took advantage of an intoxicated & vulnerable young woman who became separated from friends," they added in another tweet.

According to media reports, after taking the woman to a property, Preet Vikal took a ‘trophy photograph’ of her and also sent it to his friends. However, the woman complained to the police regarding the shocking incident and also described being left shaken, and a feeling of guilt because of his actions.
