The Indian Consulate General in New York has introduced a program to support Indian students studying in the northeastern region of the United States. This initiative aims to provide assistance with securing internships, obtaining legal advice, and accessing medical professionals.
A key aspect of the program is a new online platform designed to link Indian students with internship opportunities at various US companies.

The platform features a diverse array of positions across multiple sectors, including finance, IT, investment banking, automotive, software, science and technology, healthcare, hospitality, multinational corporations, government, aviation, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceuticals.

"As part of the initiative to support Indian students in its jurisdiction, @IndiainNew York has developed a platform for Indian Students to find internship opportunities at companies in the USA," the Indian Consulate in New York wrote in a post on X.
This new service represents a significant addition to the Consulate's efforts to support Indian students within its jurisdiction.

According to the Consulate in New York, various Indian and American companies and organisations have pledged to offer internship opportunities to qualified Indian students through the Indian Student Resource Portal.

The US Embassy in India reported in a November release that, for the third consecutive year, a record number of Indian students travelled to the United States for higher education.
The Indian Consulate has also contacted several prominent doctors within its jurisdiction, who have agreed to provide psychiatric counselling and other consultations (including telemedicine services if necessary) to Indian students across the 10 states it covers.

Recent months have seen several incidents, including fatalities, involving Indian students at US universities, raising concerns within the Indian community.

How to apply?

Those interested in applying for internships can do so via the dedicated website - indiannewyork.gov.in/job/index. According to the official social media post, students can apply directly to companies using the information available on the portal.
“Students are advised to apply directly to the companies as per the details provided in the portal. It should be noted that the Consulate has no role in the internship selection process and is not responsible for it,” the Indian mission said after it announced the portal on social media platform ‘X’.
