An Indian-origin man who pleaded guilty to a catalogue of dreadful sexual crimes has been sentenced to 22 years behind bars in the United Kingdom. His brother was also sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment for connected offences, following an investigation that began when a compromised device was taken to be repaired.
The incident took place when a device with a broken screen and corrupted data was surrendered at a repair centre. Technicians, while logging and scanning the device, found shocking material and informed the authorities. The device was owned by Kishan Patel, but videos on the device incriminated his brother, Vruj Patel, in child sexual abuse offences.
The Greater Manchester Police first received the complaint, which was then passed to the Metropolitan Police. The investigators had named Vruj as the man in the indecent video, prompting his arrest on February 1.

Charges And Convictions
At Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 26-year-old Vruj Patel pleaded guilty to a string of charges. These included:
- Rape of a child under 13
- Assault of a child under 13 by penetration
- Four counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
- Rape of a woman over 16
- Sexual assault by penetration of a second victim
- Possession of indecent images of children
- Voyeurism
The crimes included at least two victims, one of them a young girl who was familiar to the Patel brothers. Detectives also found evidence indicating Vruj raped a young woman following a university night out in 2018, leading to fears his offending may have persisted in more recent years. His brother, Kishan Patel, was also jailed for 15 months for possession of indecent images of children.
Police Appeal For More Victims
The Metropolitan Police think that there could be other survivors who have not yet reported. Detective Sergeant Rob Blant, who headed the investigation, called Vruj Patel "a cowardly, opportunistic offender who has preyed on vulnerable victims for his own sexual gratification.
“The threat he poses to women and children has been reflected in his sentence and his future management under the terms of the Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender notification requirements for the remainder of his life,” Blant said.
He praised the case as “a fantastic example of a thorough and detailed investigation by Met detectives working to support victims of the most serious offending and safeguard the wider public from a dangerous offender.” In addition to his lengthy prison sentence, Vruj Patel has been placed on the UK’s sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring he will remain under strict monitoring.
