In what could be a fresh escalation amid peace talks push, Iran has launched a cruise missile at the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, according to the Iranian state television.
Iranian Army public relations said the forces fired coastal cruise missiles in the direction of the US aircraft carrier. However, the Iranian claim remains unverified. There was no response from the United States either.
Attack after Iran's warning
According to a report by state broadcaster Press TV, the attack came hours after Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani issued a stern warning to the aircraft carrier that it would be struck if it entered the range of Iran's missile systems. He had said that the Iranian navy was constantly monitoring the vessel.
Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, had also said that the "strategic power" previously claimed by the United States had now "turned into a strategic defeat."

Trump pushes for 15-point ceasefire plan
The development comes amid what are de-escalating talks by Trump and escalating rhetoric from Tehran.
Trump has asserted that the US is in talks with Iran to end hostilities, a sharp deviation from his 48-hour warning a few days ago. Recently, he mentioned that a 15-point ceasefire plan is being negotiated. The plan was submitted to Tehran through Pakistan, which had been invited to host the talks between Washington and Tehran.
Although Iran is firm on its rejection of any such talks and there is no official word on the provisions in the plan, reports claim that nuclear disarmament of Tehran, opening of the Strait of Hormuz, capping its missile capabilities are some of the major aspects of the 15-point plan in exchange of removal of sanctions on Iran.
