Iran War 2026: Amid the ongoing war between Iran and Israel-US, officials on Friday informed that two Indian nationals died in a drone attack in Oman, marking the first death of any Indian in West Asia. The officials further stated that 10 others got severely injured in Sohar city, almost 200 kilometers away from the capital city Muscat. However, they clarified that all of them were out of danger, adding that all the necessary assistance was provided to the victims.

Aseem Mahajan, joint secretary (Gulf) in the external affairs ministry, stated that five Indians were discharged from a local hospital after receiving treatment. He further assured that all the injured nationals were out of danger, adding that necessary assistance was provided to them.

"We express our deepest condolences to their families. Of the 11 injured (in the attack), 10 are Indians. Out of them, five have been discharged after receiving treatment, and five others are receiving treatment in local hospitals," Mahajan asserted. "None of them are reported to have serious injuries. Our mission is to be in close touch with the concerned company and local authorities and to render all assistance," he added.

He further stated that the Indian government is considered and is determined to provide the necessary assistance to all the 10 million Indian nationals living in West Asian countries. Mahajan also said that 15 Indian crew members of the oil tanker Safesea Vishnu (US-owned) were also successfully rescued. The tanker was attacked by Iran in the Iraqi waters earlier on Wednesday, leading to the panic.

Apart from this, an Indian crew member was killed in the attack. Mahajan stated that efforts were being made to bring back his body to India. "Our mission team is in Basra and is rendering all assistance," he said. The war entered its 14th day on March 13, with no immediate signs of peace in the Middle East region.
