Iran War 2026: Amid the ongoing war between Iran and the joint forces of Israel and the US, Pakistan has been dealing with the shortage of oil. Islamabad, in an attempt to manage the crisis, has announced an "oil emergency" as all the major cities continue to witness long queues at the gas stations. However, a new report has revealed that Pakistan is set to deal with another issue soon- shortage of life-saving medicines, as there have been no signs of immediate peace.
Pakistan Faces Major Crisis
As per a report, the import of pharmaceutical raw materials and other critical supplies to Pakistan has been severely affected due to the war. The situation is likely to worsen in the upcoming weeks as Islamabad's existing stock of raw materials is sufficient for only about one-and-a-half months, reported Reuters, citing The Express Tribune.
Pakistan has not been able to import life-saving medicines, pharmaceutical ingredients, and baby formula, as several key international flights have been suspended due to the conflict. The report further suggested that the shortage of raw materials is likely to affect the patients dealing with serious diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
"Many of these patients depend on the country's public healthcare system," the report said. The war has worsened the economy of Pakistan, as the ordinary citizens were already dealing with high inflation, unemployment, and expensive healthcare.

However, this is not the first time that Pakistan is likely to deal with a shortage of life-saving medicines. Earlier during the COVID-19 pandemic, the experts had suggested the authorities focus on manufacturing pharmaceutical ingredients rather than depending on cheaper imports, but little progress was made in the next years.
While Pakistan has not openly supported any sides, it condemned the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the Israeli-US attack.
