Iran-Israel War: US President Donald Trump has stated that he is not interested in engaging in negotiations with Iran, suggesting that the war with Iran might only conclude when Tehran no longer has a functioning military or leadership.
Trump proposed that a continued air campaign could make any potential talks irrelevant if all leaders of Iran were killed and its military completely destroyed. "At some point, I don't think there will be anybody left to say 'We surrender," Trump said, as reported by Reuters.
This comment follows a series of exchanges of attacks between Israel and Iran on Saturday, as the conflict between the US-Israeli coalition and Iran entered its second week. According to Reuters, Iran's president issued an apology to neighbouring nations for the attacks on US facilities in those countries, aiming to calm growing anger across the Gulf, though the gesture was met with criticism from Iranian hardliners.
"I personally apologise to neighbouring countries that were affected by Iran's actions," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said, urging those nations not to join the US-Israeli offensive against Iran. He dismissed Trump's call for the Islamic Republic's unconditional surrender as "a dream," but stated that Iran's interim leadership council had agreed to halt any further attacks on neighbouring countries, unless the strikes originated from their territories.
Amid possible internal disagreements in Iran's leadership following Pezeshkian's comments, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a televised address, offered assurances that any members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who surrendered would not face harm. Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, appeared on state television and denied any rift among Iranian officials regarding the handling of the war.
In Oslo, the US embassy was struck by an explosion early on Sunday, causing minor damage but no injuries, according to Norwegian police. Witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the vicinity of the embassy compound, as reported by Norwegian daily Verdens Gang. It is still unclear what caused the explosion or who was responsible, and the US State Department has yet to comment.
Saudi Arabia has warned Tehran that continued Iranian attacks on the kingdom and its energy sector could lead to a retaliatory response from Riyadh. Four individuals familiar with the matter told Reuters that Saudi Arabia had warned Iran of this potential escalation. Early on Sunday, Saudi Arabia reported thwarting a drone attack on Riyadh's diplomatic quarter, with no injuries.

In retaliation for the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, Tehran has targeted both Israel and Gulf Arab states that host US military installations. Israel has launched new airstrikes in Lebanon following a border assault by the Iran-aligned militia Hezbollah. As the conflict widens, Israel warned Lebanon of a "very heavy price" should it fail to curb Hezbollah militants, and Israel has continued to bombard their strongholds with air raids, as well as conducting a deadly airborne assault in eastern Lebanon.
According to Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, the US-Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of at least 1,332 Iranian civilians, with thousands more wounded. Large explosions were reported in parts of Tehran by state media, while Israel stated that it had targeted Iranian missile sites and command centres.
