US-Israel-Iran War: As the Middle East conflict intensifies, Iranian politicians say that they are willing to exit the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), highlighting that the agreement has systematically failed to protect Iran from external threats. Some also argued that the treaty till now has not even yielded any meaningful strategic benefits. The US-Israel joint strikes continue to hit civilian nuclear sites, steel factories, and a university.
Sharing an X post on Friday, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the national security commission of parliament, said it would be meaningless for Iran to remain a member of the international agreement, knowing "it had no benefit for us."
According to Malek Shariati, a representative from Tehran, a priority piece of legislation has been uploaded in the online portal of the parliament and will be reviewed soon.
Since February 28, the start of the war, politicians have not conducted a single session discussing the war. Shariati said the legislation will withdraw Iran from the NPT, revoke a law that adopted nuclear restrictions connected with a now non-functioning 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, and “support a new international treaty with aligned countries (including Shanghai Cooperation Organization/BRICS) on developing peaceful nuclear technologies."
Earlier, politicians had demanded the NPT exit, along with a nuclear bomb, as a retaliation to external pressure. Iran continues to accuse the International Atomic Energy Agency of being partial against attacks on Iran's nuclear sites. However, the global body had rejected the charges.
Iran Calls IAEA Chief ‘A Partner In Crime’
Mohammad Mohkber, who is a senior adviser to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a former first vice president under the late President Ebrahim Raisi, claimed on Saturday that IAEA Director Rafael Grossi is a “partner in crime” in the present war and is supporting the US and Israel. He also accused the IAEA director of being involved in the 12-day war in June last year.
“His political reports about Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, lack of condemnation for aggression against our nuclear facilities, and now encouraging the enemies to attack Iran’s nuclear sites will bring the country to irrevocable decisions,” Mohkber said.
Grossi, in an interview with CBS News, said no war has the capability to totally destroy Iran’s nuclear program, “unless it is nuclear war and you go for destruction unfathomable, which we hope will never be the case."
Fada-Hossein Maleki, a member of the national security commission of Iran’s parliament, on Saturday, accused Grossi of acting as a protestor to please US President Donald Trump for several months. Reacting to the nuclear war comment by the IAEA director, Maleki said that it violates all global norms and constitutes a "provocative act.
Is Washington Trying To Stifle Iranian Oil Exports
On Friday, Israeli and US forces greatly stepped up their attacks, sometimes destroying infrastructure that will have long-term effects on Iranians and the country's suffering economy, which is dealing with an energy crisis and over 70 per cent inflation.
Iran's steel giants, the Khuzestan complex in western Ahvaz and the Mobarakeh facility in central Isfahan, were both heavily bombed. The Ahvaz complex said on Saturday that production would be suspended until further notice due to attacks on production lines and the power plants that supply it.
At a time when Washington is also attempting to stifle Iran's oil exports, the enterprises, which are the foundation of Iran's non-oil exports, were expected to generate billions of dollars in cash. Following significant damage to the sites, thousands of employment could be at risk.

More intense air strikes have been reported over the past day in Karaj and Shahr-e Rey near Tehran, as well as in Yazd, Shiraz, Tabriz, Bushehr and a number of other cities.
