Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on Saturday issued his first public statement after the funeral of his father, late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Mojtaba, who remained absent from public view during his father’s funeral proceedings in July, vowed to avenge the deaths of those killed in the recent wars and accused the perpetrators of being “criminal” and “disgraceful murderers.” 

Mojtaba Khamenei Vows Revenge

In a statement, shared on his official X account, Mojtaba paid tribute to his father, calling him a “martyred Leader” and pledged to continue his legacy. He vowed to avenge the deaths of those killed in recent conflicts, saying the nation demanded retaliation against those responsible. "We pledge to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two [recent] wars by taking revenge against the criminal, disgraceful murderers. This vengeance is what our nation is demanding, and this must definitely be done," Mojtaba said.

Iran Supreme Leader Issues Warning

Paying tribute to his father, he added, “To our martyred Leader: O unjustly slain Leader! O righteous servant of God! We pledge to safeguard your legacy, to steadfastly traverse the straight path you laid out, to fear no hardships along the way, and to attach our hearts to divine promises and glad tidings as you did.”

He further issued a warning against those responsible for the killing of the late leader, saying they would not escape accountability. He accused them of being “criminal, disgraceful murderers” and said their identities had been documented. Mojtaba said, “The criminal, disgraceful murderers of the martyred Leader, whose names are fully documented from the highest to the lowest ranks, will carry their dream of a peaceful death in bed to the grave.”

He also thanked supporters who attended funeral ceremonies across Iran and Iraq, describing the turnout as historic. "I extend my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible, enemy-shattering, and historic turnout of tens of millions of people across #Iran and #Iraq, particularly in #Tehran, #Qom, #Najaf, #Karbala, and #Mashhad," Mojtaba said.

Ali Khamenei Funeral

Ali Khamenei, 86, was laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday night. His funeral, which began on July 3, lasted for five days and passed through Tehran, Qom, and parts of neighbouring Iraq. Millions of people joined the funeral procession. He was killed on the first day of the US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Several members of his family, including his 14-month-old granddaughter, were also killed in the same attacks.
