In what could prove to be a major breakthrough in the stalemate between Iran and the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday said that Tehran was considering Washington's request for negotiations.
While speaking to the Russian media, according to his Telegram channel, Araghchi asserted that despite waging war for over 37 days and a naval blockade thereafter, the US has failed to achieve its objective.
Araghchi said, "It is clear that Iran has stood up against the world's greatest superpower, and they have not achieved even one of their goals. This is why they have requested negotiations, and we are currently considering it."
Araghchi's statement comes amid uncertainty over the second round of talks in Islamabad. Amid days of anticipations, US President Donald Trump on Sunday cancelled American delegation's visit to Islamabad for ceasefire talks, adding that Tehran could reach out to him if it wants to talk.

During an interview with Fox New, he added that any future discussion would be held by phone. Trump said, "If they wanna talk, they can come to us, or they can call us. We are not sending people to travel 18 hours to meet."
Trump's cancellation announcement was seen in response to Araghchi's quick departure to Oman from Islamabad even as the US delegation was prepared to meet him there.
Next day, Araghchi returned to Islamabad, a move widely seen by analysts as breaking the ice. As two sides remain estrange and talks remain suspended the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked completely, affecting global oil supply and markets.
