US-Iran Tensions: Amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that Iran may be planning to assassinate him. He suggested that some elements within the Iranian leadership may want to take revenge against him.

Trump Says He Is Iran’s ‘Number One Target’

Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump said he believes he is a top target for Iran. Trump said, “I'm number one on the kill list for Iran... I don't really care because I'm doing my job and I'm doing it, I hope, better than anybody's ever done it because we have a country that's hot and really, really successful... I like being number one on TikTok better, but I'm number one on the list for killing.”

Trump Signals Possible US Strikes

During the same session, Trump said he does not expect a prolonged war with Iran. He emphasised that any further escalation would be resolved quickly. “I don't think it's going to start again. I think it's going to go very quickly. They hit a couple of ships, and so we hit them much harder. When they hit, we hit 10 times harder. We hit much harder than they do. We have a lot better equipment than they do,” Trump said.

He also signalled that the US may carry out further strikes if required, when asked if action could be taken that night. Trump also referred to the Strait of Hormuz and claimed that oil supplies would remain available. “I said, we might. But when they hit, we hit. We use their language. I think anything that happens is going to be over very quickly. We'll only make it safer, including for oil. Oil is going to be very free, very easy, and it's going to happen very fast. We have the Hormuz Strait. The boats have pulled out. There's a gusher of oil right now. We have a lot of oil,” he added.

US-Iran Tensions Escalate

Tensions between the US and Iran continue to rise following recent attacks and military actions in the region. Earlier in the day, Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for attacks on US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. These strikes followed a wave of US military operations targeting Iran. According to the US military, more than 80 Iranian targets were hit. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran's ability to threaten international shipping passing through the critical waterway.
