Is Putin Staying In Bunkers? Report Says Russian President’s Security Tightened Amid Drone Threats

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly increased his personal security amid fears of possible assassination attempts and drone attacks during the ongoing Ukraine war. Reports suggest that his security arrangements have been tightened, with reduced public appearances and increased protective measures.

Security Tightened Amid Drone Threats 

According to a report by the Financial Times, the Kremlin has become more cautious in recent months, leading to stricter security arrangements around the Russian President. The report says Putin is now spending long periods on underground bunkers. This development comes after concerns inside the Kremlin grew after Ukrainian drone attacks targeted Russian airfields and after rising tensions linked to the war.

Officials are also said to be worried about internal threats and possible attempts to destabilise the Russian leadership. Russia’s Federal Protective Service (FSO), which is responsible for protecting the president, has reportedly tightened security checks for anyone meeting Putin. Staff members working closely with him, including cooks, photographers and bodyguards, are said to face strict restrictions. They are also not allowed to carry mobile phones or use public transport near Putin.

Is Putin Staying In Bunkers?

The report further added that Putin and his family are no longer regularly staying at their official residences near Moscow or at the Valdai estate. Instead, he is believed to be working from highly secure bunker locations, including one in the southern Krasnodar region. Russian state media has also reportedly used pre-recorded footage to maintain the image of normal routine and activity.

The report further claimed that internet shutdowns in Moscow are partly linked to increased security concerns and efforts to prevent possible drone attacks. While claims have surfaced, there has been no official confirmation about the development.

Russia Accuses Ukraine Of Ceasefire Violation

Meanwhile, Russia’s defence ministry on Friday said that Ukraine violated a ceasefire announced by Moscow to mark celebrations of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany. It claimed that Ukrainian forces continued attacks using drones and artillery despite the ceasefire. The statement noted, "Despite the declaration of a ceasefire, Ukrainian armed groups continued to launch attacks using drones and artillery against the positions of our troops, as well as against civilian targets in the border areas of the Belgorod and Kursk regions."
