Is X Down Worldwide? Thousands Report Outages As App, Website Face Widespread Disruptions

Social media platform X experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday, disrupting access for tens of thousands of users across multiple countries, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.com. The platform, formerly known as Twitter, appeared to face technical difficulties affecting both its app and website, triggering a spike in user complaints within a short period. 

Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from various sources, including user submissions, showed significant disruption in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. In India, more than 2,000 users reported problems with X as of 8:30 pm IST. In the United States, reports surged to over 22,900 as of 9:19 am ET, while more than 7,000 users in the UK and over 2,500 users in Canada flagged similar issues around the same time.

App And Website Both Affected

Data from Downdetector indicated that the majority of affected users were experiencing problems with the mobile app. Around 59 per cent of users reported app-related issues, while 33 per cent said they were unable to access the website. The remaining 8 per cent flagged server connection problems. In the US, 59 per cent reported app issues, 25 per cent faced website access problems, and 16 per cent experienced disruptions with their feed or timeline.

Users Report Blank Timelines, Error Messages

Users reported a range of issues, including blank timelines, repeated error messages, difficulty refreshing feeds, and problems opening profiles or posting content. Many said the app failed to load entirely, while others encountered server errors when attempting basic actions. The outage graph on Downdetector showed a sudden surge rather than a gradual rise in complaints.. 

The Downdetector outage map highlighted several major US cities as hotspots, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Chicago, indicating that the disruption was widespread rather than localised. Similar reports were recorded from parts of Europe and other regions, reinforcing the global scale of the outage. 

Users took to other social media platforms to vent frustration and seek updates. By 8:10 pm IST, total complaints on Downdetector had climbed past 24,000.
