The Israeli military announced on Thursday that it is investigating the possibility that it has killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

An IDF statement released earlier today revealed a significant potential achievement. They stated, "During an operation by IDF troops in the Gaza Strip, three terrorists were killed. The IDF and Shin Bet are looking into the possibility that one of the terrorists is Yahya Sinwar."

Yahya Sinwar has served as the head of Hamas in Gaza since 2017 and recently ascended to the role of chief following the suspected Israeli assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. Sinwar played a key role in planning Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

According to a report by The Times Of Israel, IDF troops operating in Gaza reportedly did not target Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar during an incident where he may have been killed. The soldiers observed several fighters entering a building and ordered a strike, causing part of the structure to collapse. Only upon inspecting the aftermath did they suspect one of the deceased resembled Sinwar.
