Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah's body was recovered intact from the site of an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to medical and security sources cited by Reuters on Sunday. The sources revealed that Hassan Nasrallah, who was confirmed dead by Hezbollah on Saturday, showed no visible wounds and it is believed he died from blunt trauma caused by the force of the explosion.
Hezbollah’s official statement, while confirming Hassan Nasrallah’s death, did not specify the details of his killing or the timing of his funeral. The high-ranking leader of the Axis of Resistance was assassinated by the Israeli military through airstrikes targeting Hezbollah’s headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday amid the ongoing war between Israel and the Iran-backed group.
Hezbollah's official statement on Saturday paid tribute to Hassan Nasrallah, referring to him as "His Eminence, the Master of Resistance" and hailing him as a "righteous servant" who has now passed away as a "great martyr." The group emphasised Nasrallah’s pivotal role over the past three decades, during which he led Hezbollah from "victory to victory" in its confrontations with Israel.
On Sunday, Israel launched additional strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, claiming to have killed another senior figure of the group, Nabil Kaouk. The Israeli military reported that it hit numerous Hezbollah positions, including weapon storage sites and missile launchers aimed at Israel. The Israeli navy also reported intercepting a projectile near the Red Sea, while eight others fired from Lebanon landed in open areas.
The death of Nasrallah marks a significant blow to Hezbollah as tensions between the two sides continue to rise. In response to the intensifying conflict, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, stressed the importance of diplomacy, stating in a televised address that Lebanon had "no option but the diplomatic option" to address Israel’s escalation.
