Israel Iran News:  The unprecedented missile and drone attack by Iran and its proxies in Iraq, Yemen and Syria on early Sunday was effectively countered by the coalition of Israel, the US, the UK, France and to some extent Jordan. While Sunday's attack marked the first direct confrontation between the two arch-rivals, it further fueled the regional tensions in the Middle East which erupted last year after Hamas targeted Kibuttz and villages inside Israeli territory and killed around 1200 people, a majority of which were civilians.

Even though Iran has been using its proxies in Yemen, Syria and Lebanon to carry out offensives against the Jewish nation, it was Israel's latest strike in Damascus, Syria on the Iranian consulate which prompted a direct confrontation between the two.

Iran's attack against Israel, however, failed as the latter effectively intercepted almost 99.99 per cent of missiles and drones which were fired towards it. The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has said that out of around 300 projectiles which included cruise and ballistic missiles, rockets and suicide drones, only nine could actually land in its territory. A claim which was refuted by Iran's IRGC, which called its operation successful.

(The IDF published an infographic illustrating the origin of Iranian missile launches targeting Israel.)

Israel-Iran War: Trinity of Iron Dome, Arrow and C Dome saved the day

Calling the interception, “a very significant strategic success,” Rear Adm Daniel Hagari of IDF said that Iran fired 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles. Out of these, only a few could enter Israel and did a little damage to a few airbases.

IDF also released several footage of their sophisticated air defence systems intercepting the projectiles in the air. Its famed Iron Dome air defence system, Arrow missile defence systems, and C-Dome defence systems played an important role in thwarting the attack.

Israel also acknowledged the support of strategic partners in protecting the country.

According to David Atherton, a journalist affiliated with The European Conservative, Israel successfully intercepted 185 Kamikaze drones, 103 out of 110 ballistic missiles, and all 36 cruise missiles. Atherton noted in a post on X that only 7 ballistic missile impacts were recorded on Israeli territory.

Israel-Iran War: Huge cost of air defence

According to a senior defence expert, Israel spent over $550 million to intercept most of Iran's missiles and drones. This included costs for intercepting half of the missiles and drones, using David’s Sling air-defence system, and keeping 100 Israeli warplanes flying for six hours with fuel and weapons.
