Israel-Palestine War: Jordan has called off the quadrilateral summit the country's monarch was scheduled to host with US President Joe Biden in attendance to discuss the humanitarian crisis triggered by Israel's bombardment of Gaza, Al Jazeera reported quoting Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. The development followed the bombing of a hospital in the Gaza Strip in which 500 people, including children, were killed.
Safadi said the meeting would be held at a time when the parties could agree to end the "war and the massacres against Palestinians" and blamed Israel with its military campaign for pushing the Middle East to "the brink of the abyss".
Israel has denied responsibilty for Tuesday's bombing of the Al Ahli Arab hospital and claimed that the blast was a result of a failed rocket attack by Palestinian militant outfit Islamic Jihad. In the initial aftermath of the bombing, US President Joe Biden postponed his visit to Jordan. He was scheduled to embark for Jordan after concluding his visit to Israel, where he was scheduled to land on Wednesday.
"After consulting with King Abdullah II of Jordan and in light of the days of mourning announced by President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, President Biden will postpone his travel to Jordan and the planned meeting with these two leaders and President Sisi of Egypt," a White House official had said.
