In a bold statement on Thursday, US President Donald Trump suggested that Israel will hand over the Gaza Strip to the United States once fighting in the region has concluded. Trump added that the Palestinians would be resettled elsewhere, which would eliminate the need for US troops on the ground in Gaza.
“The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. He proposed that Palestinians would be relocated to "safer and more beautiful communities" in the region, with modern homes and improved living conditions. Trump Envisions US Takeover Of Gaza
Despite the outcry, Trump remained confident in his vision for Gaza’s future. "No soldiers by the US would be needed!" he insisted, suggesting that the development of Gaza could be handled through international cooperation, with "great development teams from all over the world" working to turn the region into “one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth”.
Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza and possibly remove its 2.2 million Palestinian residents has sparked widespread anger and concern globally. Many officials, analysts, and human rights organisations have condemned the plan, calling it a form of ethnic cleansing. The idea has faced significant backlash across the Middle East and beyond, with critics questioning its humanitarian and ethical implications.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas rejected Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza, stating that Palestinian leaders would not permit any violation of their people's rights. He condemned the plan as a "serious violation of international law".
