Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron shared a bizarre off-microphone exchange at the G7 summit in Kananaskis, hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The awkward video went viral on social media platforms, which triggered wild theories. During Monday’s session, before Carney’s opening remarks, the two leaders were seen engaging in a "muted" interaction around the summit table, where discussions covered topics like the war in Ukraine and artificial intelligence.

With microphones muted, Macron leaned over, whispering to Meloni behind a closed fist. Meloni responded with a glance, a slight nod, and a thumbs-up. Moments later, Macron whispered again, prompting Meloni to look at him and roll her eyes before the camera cut away. The content of their conversation remains unclear due to the muted microphones and shielded mouths.

Not the first time for Meloni

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time their interactions have drawn attention. At the 2024 G7 summit hosted by Italy, a viral moment showed Meloni appearing displeased after Macron greeted her with a handshake and a kiss on her hand. The encounter followed their disagreement over including abortion rights language in the summit’s final statement, with Meloni objecting to the phrase “safe and legal” abortion, calling it “profoundly wrong,” according to Italian media.

Her office also dismissed claims that references to LGBTQ rights were removed from the statement, labelling them “baseless.” However, before her office issued any clarifications, the video had gone viral on social media platforms, where netizens compared her bizarre reaction with "doomsday".
