A short and blunt exchange between tech billionaire Elon Musk and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on her high-profile trip to the White House has set off a storm of online gossip. A video got viral, capturing the Tesla CEO visibly "blushing."

The Italian Prime Minister, who on Thursday held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on energy cooperation and trade relations, posted a behind-the-scenes clip of her meeting with Musk on X (formerly Twitter). "Glad to see my friend @elonmusk back in Washington," Meloni captioned the tweet, which quickly gained traction not for the political message, but for Musk's telling expression.

While the Musk-Meloni moment may have captivated online audiences, the primary purpose of PM Meloni’s visit to Washington was to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations with the United States. Her meeting with President Trump focused on enhancing energy cooperation, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, as well as boosting transatlantic trade. “She is respected across Europe,” Trump said after the meeting. “She has taken Europe by storm.” Meloni also expressed hope for “a stronger U.S.-Italy partnership” and hinted at further collaboration on defense and digital innovation.

Seconds after the video was uploaded, social media exploded with lighthearted commentary and speculation. Several users noted Musk's behavior, stating that he appeared "smitten" and "nervous" when around the Italian leader. "Is it just us, or does Elon seem completely starstruck?" a user wrote. "Elon has a crush on her. Pretty obvious," another user wrote, fueling further interest in the two's public relationship.

This is not the first time that Musk and Meloni have created a buzz on the internet. In September 2024, the pair was seen hugging warmly at the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Awards in New York, where Musk gave Meloni a high-profile leadership award. The gala's viral photo had given rise to a flurry of dating rumors, all of which were quickly denied by Musk. "We are not dating," Musk explained at the time on X, further adding, "I was there with my mom." The denial came despite Musk having showered Meloni with glowing praise during his award acceptance speech, referring to her as "authentic, honest, and thoughtful" and "someone even more beautiful inside than outside."
