Nepal is again set to witness a change of guard after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda' failed to secure a trust vote in Parliament on Friday. Hours after the parliament upheaval, Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel called on political parties to stake claim to form the next government in the Himalayan nation. Today's development inadvertently leads to a new government under former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Oli's 'U-turn' to broker a power-sharing deal with the largest party in parliament, the Nepali Congress (NC) – led by Sher Bahadur Deuba, has kept his hopes of regaining the reigns of the country, alive. Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) chief Oli had withdrawn support from the Prachanda-led coalition.
In the 275-member Nepali parliament, the majority mark stands at 138. While the NC has 89 seats in the HoR, CPN-UML has 78. Their combined strength of 167 is much more than the 138 required for a majority in the lower house.
Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has already endorsed the name of Oli as the new Prime Minister after both parties brokered a seven-point formula to keep the new-found coalition upload. According to the agreement, Deuba and Oli will take turns in the Prime Ministership of the country.
While Oli will be PM for the first one and a half years, Deuba will be at the helm for the remaining term of parliament.

Earlier today, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda lost the vote of confidence in HoR. Kamal received only 63 out of 275 votes. 194 members voted against the motion. At least 138 votes are needed to win the vote of trust.
