London ISKCON Controversy: Man Offers Chicken Inside Govinda Restaurant, Sparks Hindu Hate Debate

London ISKCON Controversy: In a shocking incident that has evoked widespread anger online, a British youth of African origin openly consumed non-vegetarian food within ISKCON's Govinda restaurant in London, a popular pure vegetarian eating place owned by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). According to a video circulating on social media, the boy went into Govinda, inquired from the workers whether they had meat, and after he was told that only vegetarian food is prepared, he went ahead to whip out a box of chicken from KFC. He then went ahead to consume the chicken within the restaurant grounds openly defying the religious and cultural norms of the facility.

Handed Over Chicken To Staff Members and Customers

Eyewitnesses say that the man took it a step forward and presented the non-vegetarian dishes to fellow diners and even the staff, even though he was aware that the restaurant is strictly vegetarian in the form of Hindu doctrine. The incident has evoked severe condemnation on social media. Numerous people have termed the act as an attempt to offend Hindu sentiments and have referred to it as an act of intolerance and racism. One of the users said, "He gained nothing by intimidation! Zero achievement but caused a disturbance in society."
One wrote, "Hope the complaint was lodged with the local police station. This is hate in its truest form towards Hindus, and he knew Hindus would not take revenge, so he dared to do this."

Some netizens asked why the restaurant management failed to report the incident to the police. Others noted that such deliberate disrespect of religious conventions cannot be allowed in any civilised society. A reader commented, "The deliberate flouting of a religious and cultural norm in such a way is a blatant expression of intolerance that cannot be allowed to exist in any civilised society."

ISKCON has so far not made an official statement on the incident. The public and patrons are, however, demanding strict action from local authorities against the person for causing public unrest and injuring religious sentiments. The appalling act has again brought accusations of increased intolerance and disrespect for religious sites. Most people are calling for local police to take up the issue and make sure this does not occur again in the future.
