The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department apprehended a man on Sunday who had been robbing homes in the Malibu area amidst the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. Law enforcement faced significant challenges in arresting the suspect, as he had disguised himself as a firefighter, Fox News reported. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna has confirmed the development.
“When I was out there in the Malibu area, I saw a gentleman that looked like a firefighter. And I asked him if he was okay because he was sitting down. I didn't realise we had him in handcuffs. We are turning him over to LAPD because he was dressed like a fireman, and he was not. He just got caught burglarising a home. So those are issues that our front line deputies and police officers are dealing with,” he said.
As many as 29 persons have been arrested so far in different cases. One person was arrested Saturday night for violating a curfew order while three others were nabbed in an alleged burglary case. Notably, strict orders have been issued on curfew in the blaze-hit area.
"Unless you're a public safety personnel or some other disaster worker, you have no reason to be at these locations. And if you are in those areas, you will be subject to arrest. Enforcing a curfew is an important tool to keep the burn areas and evacuated properties secure, keeping looters out," the order states.
The massive fire, that has been tearing through Los Angeles, has so far claimed 24 lives. Besides, another round of strong wind is expected over the area on Monday and Tuesday, which could add to the woes of the people and rescuers.

Firefighters continue to scramble to make headway with search and rescue operations against the blazes that have reduced whole communities to scorched rubble and left dozens missing. Governor Gavin Newsom said the wildfires could be the most devastating natural disaster in US history, one that has destroyed thousands of homes and forced 1,00,000 people to evacuate.
