Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gifted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni a packet of Parle's Melody toffees during his visit to Rome.

Meloni posted a lighthearted video on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "Thank you for the gift." In the clip, she can be seen holding the packet and saying, "Prime Minister Modi brought us a gift, a very, very good toffee - Melody."

The 'Melodi' nickname gained traction on social media after the two leaders were seen interacting warmly during international summits, especially the G20 Summit and COP28 in Dubai. The hashtag originally went viral in 2023 when Meloni posted a selfie with Modi using the phrase, "Hello from the Melodi team."

Earlier, PM Modi, who is currently on a five-nation tour, posted pictures from his meeting with Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni on his X and Instagram handles.

"Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship," PM Modi posted on X.

Welcoming him to Rome, Meloni also shared a photo of them at the historic Colosseum, writing, "Welcome to Rome, my friend."

India-Italy Ties

PM Modi's visit to Italy has taken place amid the rapid strengthening of relations between India and Italy, as both countries are actively implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029. The action plan involves several sectors, including trade, investment, defence, clean energy, science and technology, and innovation.

Earlier in June 2024, Prime Minister Modi visited Italy to participate in the G7 Summit. Ahead of his visit to Italy, the prime minister attended the third India-Nordic Summit and participated in meetings aimed at strengthening India's relations with the Nordic countries.
