Ministry of Sex In Russia: Russia is considering the creation of a "Ministry of Sex" in the government to tackle the challenge of the declining birth rate of the country. Nina Ostanina, 68, a close aide to President Putin and chairperson of the Russian Parliament’s Committee on Family Protection, Paternity, Maternity, and Childhood, is vetting a proposal which advocates for such a ministry, the Mirror reported.
The move is among many such "interesting" ideas being put forward by Russian officials to meet President Putin's demand to stop the precarious drop in the birth rates across the country. This comes days after, Putin himself urged the Russians to have sex during office lunch breaks and other such intervals so that the country could produce enough kids.
Russia's demographic issue stemmed primarily from three factors - the rising cost of living, long work hours and most importantly Ukraine war. As per an earlier report by Metro, over 10 lakh Russians have left the country since the beginning of the war and the issue is further exacerbated by the heavy casualties in the war.
The Ministry Of Sex is not the only idea being proposed to the administration by the officials. There are more such unique initiatives in the country.
One slightly 'unconventional' idea is to turn off the internet and even the lights between 10 pm to 2 am to encourage couples to have sex during that period. Another idea talks about extended maternity benefits to the new mothers like 'paying them for raising kids'.
There is no dearth of bizarre ideas in the country, frantically attempting to save the dwindling population. One idea talks envisage that the state should pay for first dates up to a value of Rs 5,000.

Another proposal suggests that newlyweds should receive public funds to spend their wedding night in a hotel—up to a cosy 26,300 roubles (£208) worth.
