Experts investigating the so-called "alien mummies" discovered in Peru’s Nazca desert have unveiled dramatic new findings, asserting that the remains are authentic, organic beings that died over 1,200 years ago. The discovery sheds new light on the long-debated mystery and suggests the individuals may have died under violent circumstances.
The latest analysis focused on two of the most well-preserved mummies, named Maria and Montserrat. Both were female, with Maria estimated to be between 35 and 45 years old at death, and Montserrat between 16 and 25.
CT scans of Montserrat revealed a puncture wound to the chest, located between the fifth and sixth ribs, likely the cause of death. Her skeleton showed multiple fractures, including broken ribs and scapula, suggesting prolonged trauma. Experts believe she may have died while upright, her back against a hard surface.
Maria’s body, too, showed distressing signs. Forensic teams identified a deep incision and evidence of a bite or bruise on her lower pelvis. Additional injuries included claw-like lacerations, suggesting she may also have met a violent end.
Human-Like Features Despite 'Alien' Appearance
Despite their alien-like appearance, with elongated skulls and three-fingered limbs, scientists emphasised the anatomical similarities between the mummies and human beings.
Dr Jose Zalce, the lead expert, said Maria's skull featured familiar human characteristics such as bony eye sockets and a jaw consistent with human anatomy. “These are yet more pieces of clear and irrefutable evidence that these bodies are 100 per cent genuine, real, and organic, having once been alive,” he stated.
Both Maria and Montserrat were found to have intact internal organs, including hearts, livers, and intestines. The team confirmed there were no signs of artificial construction or modifications. Tissues and bones were examined thoroughly, and all evidence indicated natural, biological composition.

Additional Findings From ‘Antonio’
A third specimen named Antonio, described as having an elongated head, three fingers, and small slanted eyes, was also part of the analysis. Investigators found amalgam dental fillings, a compound made from mercury, silver, copper, and tin, within his mouth, further suggesting he was a once-living biological organism.
Originally unveiled in 2017 and showcased in Mexico in 2023, the mummies were initially dismissed by some as elaborate hoaxes. But with mounting forensic and anatomical evidence, researchers are now reconsidering their origins. Whether they belonged to a lost civilisation or something more extraordinary remains the subject of continued exploration.
