Nepal To Rebuild Early Warning System
Amid the ongoing rescue efforts, Nepal is also planning to strengthen its early-warning system for landslides along part of its border with China. According to Reuters report, two Nepali government sources stated that seismic sensors, cameras and a satellite communication link will be installed at Timure, a border settlement in Rasuwa district. The area lies along the same river corridor where a collapsing glacier triggered a massive surge of mud, water and rocks downstream.
Families Wait For Missing Members
For families in Maharashtra, the disaster has brought days of painful uncertainty. According to news agency PTI report, ten pilgrims from Thane remain untraceable after the flash floods swept through the Nepal-China border area, destroying checkpoints and cutting off communication. The pilgrims were travelling as part of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra when the floods struck near the Timure Chinese immigration checkpoint on August 26.

Hopes Fade At Tunnels
Meanwhile, hopes of finding survivors trapped inside hydropower tunnels are beginning to fade. As per reports, Nepali and foreign rescue teams are struggling to clear thick layers of mud, rocks and debris blocking access to the tunnels. “The search and rescue operation is still underway, and foreign teams are also supporting it at the hydropower tunnels," said Shanti Mahat, spokesperson for the NDRRMA.
