Nepal GenZ Protest: Nepal plunged deeper into political turmoil this week as massive youth-led protests forced Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign, sparking violence, arson, and widespread unrest across the country. The students-driven “Gen Z” movement, which initially began as a response to a government ban on social media, has grown into a nationwide uprising against corruption, political stagnation, and alleged apathy by the ruling elite.
Protesters stormed government buildings, set fire to the parliament complex, and torched homes of prominent leaders. The violence left 19 people dead in a single day, with the toll rising to 30 by Wednesday and over 1,000 others injured. In the chaos, more than 7,000 inmates escaped from prisons, raising further security concerns.
Amid the turmoil, Indian authorities moved swiftly to assist nationals stranded in Kathmandu after Tribhuvan International Airport was shut for over 24 hours. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced that Air India and IndiGo would operate additional flights to evacuate passengers.
As the demonstrations continue, curfews remain in place in several districts, and authorities are bracing for further unrest while coordinating relief and law enforcement efforts to restore order.
