Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take full control of the Gaza Strip amid escalating military operations against Hamas. In a video posted on Telegram, Netanyahu declared, “The fighting is intense and we are mIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuaking progress. We will take control of all the territory of the Strip. We will not give up. But in order to succeed, we must act in a way that cannot be stopped.”

His comments come as the Israeli military launched what it described as “extensive ground operations” in Gaza, part of an intensified campaign aimed at eliminating Hamas. At the same time, Netanyahu hinted at the possibility of a deal with the militant group that could bring an end to the fighting, stating that Israel remains open to negotiations under certain conditions.

Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Despite the ongoing military assault, Netanyahu acknowledged the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and emphasised that the civilian population must not be allowed to fall into famine. “We must not let the population sink into famine, both for practical and diplomatic reasons,” he said. He further warned that even Israel’s allies would not tolerate “images of mass starvation.”

In response to growing international criticism, Israel pledged on Sunday to allow a “basic amount” of food into Gaza to prevent a hunger crisis. This limited concession marks a shift in policy since March 2, when Israel imposed a strict blockade, halting the flow of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.

Internal Political Backlash

Netanyahu’s decision to allow limited aid has sparked criticism from members of his own governing coalition. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich argue that providing food and other assistance to Gaza undermines the military’s objectives and gives Hamas a lifeline. The United Nations had previously alerted the global community to the high risk of famine in Gaza, even before the latest blockade was enacted.
