Amid escalating tensions with the US, a significant shift seems to have taken place in Iran. Reports claim that a new power center has emerged in Tehran, suggesting that Ali Khomeini, the grandson of Islamic Revolution founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, has reportedly received support from the hardline Islamic Front, also known as Jebhe-ye Paydari.

Iran's Super Revolutionaries Rally Behind Ali Khomeini 

This is significant as Jebhe-ye Paydari, commonly known as the Endurance Front, is an ultra-hardline political faction in Iran. Its members are described by political analysts as “Super Revolutionaries.” They view themselves as the ultimate guardians of the values of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the pro-Western Shah and established the current authoritarian regime rooted in strict Shia Islamist ideology. Ali Khomeini recently came to light after he declared that there will be no deal with the US. He made the remarks at a gathering in Qom.

Ali, who is considered a resolute conservative figure, has reportedly consolidated his standing within Iran's hardline leadership, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), also extending its support to him. While there is no official clarification from the Iranian side, the reports have come as a shock, especially at a time when Mojtaba Khamenei, the son and successor of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, continues to remain absent from public view. He was not even present during Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies.

What Will Happen Next?

One of the reasons why the hardline Islamic Front is backing him, includes their wish to preserve and strengthen the legacy of Khomeini. If this strategy succeeds, it will signal a profound shift toward an uncompromising, fundamentalist foreign policy that actively seeks to project Iranian religious authority far beyond its current borders.

It may seek to expand its dominance in the Gulf states by pulling them out of the US orbit and bringing them into Iran's camp. Additionally, it may become increasingly difficult for reformists in Iran to advance their agenda. Regional allies like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis may also get significant advantages as hardliners consolidate power.

Iran Condemns Britain's Action

Meanwhile, Iran's foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned the United Kingdom’s decision to designate the IRGC as a security threat, calling the move "unjustified" and "irresponsible". The ministry stressed that the IRGC was an official part of Iran's armed forces and accused Britain of violating international law by targeting a state institution.
