As tributes pour in, the story of an Indian immigrant taxi driver is going viral online for what he did after the tragedy.

Indian Taxi Driver’s 9/11 Story Goes Viral

A user named Shabbos Kestenbaum shared the story on X. He said his taxi driver, Gurvinder Singh, told him that he was at the World Trade Center on the morning of 9/11. However, it was Singh’s actions during the 40 days that followed the tragedy that especially touched people online.

According to Kestenbaum, Singh gave hundreds of rides to New Yorkers who needed help. He refused to accept any payment from them. He also said Singh showed him a letter from then-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani thanking him for his service to the city.

Kestenbaum said Singh emigrated from India 35 years ago. He also said Singh encourages all his passengers to fly American flags and shared a message that he wanted to share with people on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary, “love all people, respect all people. God bless you all and god bless America!”

Kestenbaum’s post has received thousands of reactions online. Netizens have praised Singh for helping New Yorkers and described his story as an example of an immigrant making a positive contribution to his adopted country. A user wrote, “I hope immigrants like him get the respect they deserve and not the hatred being spread around the world.

Another person said Singh’s actions show how one individual can make a difference. “Great work by a hard working honest immigrant, that's the purpose of life, change other lives for the better,” the user wrote. A third user praised Singh’s story and his contribution to America and wrote, “God bless him!!! These are the immigrant stories Americans love to hear!! When it’s done right, we love their perspectives!! What a blessing he must have been to all those people.”
