Iran-US Conflict: Amid ongoing conflict with the United States, Iran on Monday claimed that Washington has agreed to some of its seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. However, Tehran has described the US’ response as insufficient, with Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei stating the strategic waterway would not reopen until Iran’s demands were met. The development comes amid ongoing efforts to end the conflict and restart direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Iran Says US Response Falls Short

In a post on X, Rezaei stated that the US had accepted some of Iran’s demands, while its position on others remained unclear. He also indicated that Tehran was not ready to return to the earlier situation. “The US has agreed to some of Iran's seven conditions, but we consider its response INADEQUATE. Iranian diplomacy has changed, and there will be no return to the status quo ante,” Rezaei wrote.

He added that Iran had made it clear that the Strait would remain closed to the US until its conditions were fulfilled. However, in his post, he did not specify all seven conditions or explain which demands Washington had accepted.

What Are Iran's Seven Conditions?

Iranian officials have previously said that the conditions are linked to a 14-point memorandum of understanding discussed in June. According to Al Jazeera, Iran called for an end to the US naval blockade and restrictions on Iranian oil sales as part of its demands. And in return, Tehran proposed reopening the Strait and resuming negotiations if Washington agrees to its conditions. Notably, Qatar has been acting as an intermediary in all the indirect talks.

Trump Doubtful About Iran Deal

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire. The report said Trump remained uncertain whether Tehran would meet Washington’s demands, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.

What Happens Next?

The next steps will depend on whether Washington formally responds to Iran’s conditions and whether both sides can resolve their differences over the proposed agreement and work towards ending the conflict. At the same time, in a possible relief for Iran, Trump has asserted that Washington would not resume military strikes against Tehran before the November 3 midterm elections.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the US “will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd”. This has raised hopes for a possible end to the conflict, as Trump has also expressed confidence that the war could end in the days before or after the midterm elections.
