- Zelenskyy has condemned strike, urging stronger sanctions on Russia.
Russia-Ukraine War: A powerful Russian jet-powered drone strike killed 13 people and wounded at least 10 others at the main railway station in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro. According to officials and the state-run railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia, the unmanned aerial vehicle targeted a platform crowded with passengers boarding a commuter train bound for the nearby southern city of Zaporizhzhia.
Zelenskyy Condemns Attack
Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed that emergency services and medics responded immediately to the scene. In a post on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also condemned the assault as a "horrific Russian strike." He confirmed that 13 people were killed and 10 others were injured after a drone targeted a crowded platform holding both an ordinary commuter train and a scheduled passenger train.
He expressed his deep condolences to the victims' families and strongly criticised international policy shifts. Zelenskyy questioned how many more "terrorist strikes" Russia would carry out following the recent lifting of sanctions on certain Russian oligarchs and the energy sector. Zelenskyy asserted that this escalation underscores why Ukraine has consistently demanded just, decisive, and unrelenting action from the United States, Europe, and the G7.

"A horrific Russian strike on the railway station in Dnipro. The Russians launched a drone attack on a platform where an ordinary commuter train and a scheduled passenger train were standing. All necessary emergency services are working at the scene,"Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Just how many terrorist strikes has Russia carried out against our people since sanctions were lifted on certain Russian oligarchs and the Russian energy sector, rather than de-escalating? This is precisely why Ukraine has always said that just and decisive action by America and Europe is needed in response to Russian escalation – sanctions against Moscow and its war machine must not be eased for as long as this Russian war continues. It is time for new, stronger sanctions steps by the EU, the United States, and the G7. I thank everyone who is ready to help in this way.

Oleshky Ceasefire
The latest attack comes as the White House on Friday announced that First Lady Melania Trump had successfully brokered a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the war-ravaged city of Oleshky, which will begin on Thursday (local time). According to the ceasefire, both warring sides will allow for humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians in Oleshky.
The Ukrainian city, Oleshky, has been severely affected due to the ongoing war. Once a city of about 24,000, Oleshky was captured by Moscow's forces on the first day of their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Its buildings were shelled and burned, and its infrastructure damaged. There's no electricity, heat or running water. Roads leading from town are mined and dotted with burned-out cars. Menacing drones buzz overhead.
"The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster. Oleshky’s remaining population is comprised primarily of elderly residents who urgently need medical attention, medicine, food, and clean water,” Melania said, as quoted in the official press release.
