'No Kings' Protests: Millions of people across the United States gathered in the streets to join the "No Kings" protests against the administration of US President Donald Trump on March 28, 2026. From busy cities like Los Angeles and New York to small towns across the nation, the protests reached a boiling point, driven by Trump's controversial deportation policies, the ongoing war in Iran, and a variety of other political actions.

The demonstrations marked the third wave of the “No Kings” rallies, which have grown increasingly widespread.

More than 3,200 events were organised across all 50 states, building on the momentum of two previous nationwide protests that had already drawn millions.

Why are there mass protests in the US? What Is 'No King Protest'?

Large crowds gathered on Saturday in opposition to Trump’s policies, especially his military actions in Iran and his aggressive deportation strategies, as well as his overall handling of domestic issues. The protests extended beyond the US borders, with similar rallies being held in Europe as well, according to the Associated Press.

The phrase “No Kings” has become a powerful symbol in American politics. It’s not just a slogan; it’s rooted in the nation’s founding principles and stands as a strong rejection of authoritarianism and one person holding too much power.

Organisers of the protests have framed the "No Kings" movement as a direct response to Trump's self-funded 100 million dollars military parade and birthday event, which many view as a symbol of wasteful spending. Meanwhile, the administration argues there’s no money for crucial public services like Social Security, Medicaid, or education.

The official site of "No Kings" states that the protest is in response to Trump’s administration sending masked agents into the streets to terrorise communities.

"These agents are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting, and detaining people without warrants, threatening to overtake elections, gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most. They are rigging maps to silence voters and ignoring mass shootings at schools and in communities."

The site further says, "This country does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants. It belongs to We the People, the people who care; who show up; and who fight for dignity, a life we can afford, and real opportunity. No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings."

One of the largest gatherings occurred in St Paul, Minnesota, where thousands of protesters stood on the Capitol lawn and surrounding streets. Many participants carried upside-down US flags, a historical symbol of distress and discontent.
